Naked Musicians

Todays blog isn’t about anything remotely off colour. The headline title may well be an attempt to grab your attention but it was inspired by a comment from a musician we work with who referred to a recent gig as “playing the songs naked.” By this he meant not that he was playing guitar and singing without any clothes on but that he had stripped the songs back to their bare bones.

Many acoustic duos and solos that you can find in the Live Music Management wedding singer section on www.lmmuk.com will play stripped back versions of much loved songs. The idea of naked musicians unable to hide behind a large band or production appealed to the team  in the Live Music Management office because this format shows the true quality of the act. The singing ability and the quality of the playing.  Radio Ones Live Lounge format and the MTV unplugged series of concerts has popularised acoustic versions of well known songs to the extent whereby we expect to hear a major RnB or dance track played by acoustic guitar and vocal but it is sometimes shocking what is revealed by taking off the layers of the song and rehearing it as a bare bones tune.

Some songs really come alive when stripped back to acoustic versions and the clever and accomplished naked musicians will choose the songs they focus on wisely picking the ones that sound really great played in an acoustic environment.

Last week I attended the re opening of Derby Walkabout after a major refurbishment and image change. As part of the rebrand the venue has reintroduced live music in the form of acoustic duo’s (those naked musicians I keep banging on about.) For the opening night we had the Freak Out duo , two good looking guys from the party band Freak Out who offer a great acoustic set. The set they played included some songs that you would just not expect to hear in an acoustic setting and yet these were some of the tunes which worked best. Princes classic tune Kiss had everyone nodding their heads in approval , a version of the Kings Of Leons Sex Is On Fire stripped back to almost a bossa nova feel was brilliant.

If you are looking for something different for a drinks reception or a party then you might want to call the Live Music Management office for best options on the very best in acoustic bands . We promise that they will be fully clothed even if they are naked!
